Job Summary:
Safe and efficient operation of heavy equipment, along with other duties as assigned.
Essential Duties:
- Operate heavy earth-moving equipment such as dozers, excavators, loaders, mining trucks, scrapers, and more in all aspects of mining.
- Perform proper equipment startup and shutdown procedures along with daily servicing of equipment.
- Operate within acceptable range of design capabilities of the equipment aided by instrumentation gauges and indicators.
- Perform all job duties following MSHA laws and regulations, established company safety policies, and state and federal environmental regulations in a safe and efficient manner consistent with North American Mining standards.
- Practice defensive driving and operating at all times.
Other duties:
- Work with other equipment operators in a safe and organized manner and within established traffic plans.
- Assist in water management, construction, labor and maintenance activities as is necessary.
- Perform utility work and operate utility equipment.
- Assist the maintenance department with routine repairs.
- Keep the supervisor informed of any potential problems.
- Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Must understand basic mechanical workings of heavy equipment to assess condition and prevent damage.
- Operate equipment properly within tolerances.
- Assist with the performance of preventative maintenance and servicing on occasion.
- Ability to work with GPS units in the equipment.
- Knowledge and ability to respond to emergencies and unpredictable situations.
- Ability to recognize unsafe and adverse conditions and the knowledge to correct or report them.
- Ability and willingness to work rotating shifts up to 12 hours per shift, night shifts, and weekends.
Education and Training:
- High school diploma or GED. Relevant experience may replace.
- Two years of experience operating heavy off-road construction equipment is a plus.
